World THEATRE Day – History & Celebrations.

Every year, on March 27th, we celebrate the World Theatre Day around the world. it was initiated by the International Theatre Institute (ITI) in 1961, we celebrate it to create awareness about the importance of theatre, Various national and international theatre events are organized to mark this occasion.

HISTORY OF WORLD THEATRE DAY:

International Theatre Institute (ITI) initiated in 1961 to celebrate World Theatre Day across the world to value and importance of theatre. ITI also host a yearly message, spoken by a chosen famous theater performer, to share their reflections on the art of theater and its future. The first of those messages were spoken by Jean Cocteau in 1962, Theatres all across the globe organise and host events to mark this day. In one such event, a theatre personality, known for their works in theatre, shares and circulates the World Theatre Day International Message with a Culture of Peace at the invitation of ITI .

HOW WE CAN CELEBRATE WORLD THEATRE DAY:

Contact and coordinate with the ITI Centre or Cooperating Member in their country or region to participate in organising events for the day or in competitions as well.

Read and hear the message of their chosen speaker and spread it across social media using the hashtag #worldtheaterday.

Join a theater program and learn music and acting in your local area. It’s lots of fun and you can even encourage your friends to join in on the action and make it a group activity.
